Huang Yiping, dean of the National Development Research Institute of Peking University, said on Monday that he suggested that the government consider establishing a "Global South Green Development Plan" to support the green transformation of developing countries, especially new energy, through commercial and policy-based tools. This is a possible path to build a financial power in the short term.

asiansoccerHe said at the "Bretton Woods System: The Past 80 Years and Future Prospects" International Conference held in Hangzhou and the 2024 Tsinghua Wudaokou Global Financial Forum that the three most important characteristics of a financial power are efficiency, stability and international influence.

"If you want to talk about a financial power,asiansoccerI think international influence cannot be ignored. If we just do a good job at home, we cannot be regarded as a strong country. International influence is indeed a bit difficult in our current circumstances. I think we can consider several aspects (below)." Huang Yiping said.

First of all, how can the financial development path with Chinese characteristics be in line with international systems, systems and rules? "We can have characteristics, but since we want to have international influence, we must be understood, accepted and trusted by others. I think this is a big challenge." he said.

Secondly, how to exert international influence while capital accounts are not fully open and the RMB is not yet fully internationalized is the second issue.

Third, how to allow Hong Kong to continue to play an important role in the international financial system, especially how to further enhance its international influence.

"We do have many challenges in enhancing our international influence. Of course, building a financial power will not happen overnight, and not all these things will be completed immediately, but I think this should be on our agenda." Huang Yiping said.

In the short term, one of his suggestions for building a financial power is to set up a "Global South Green Development Plan." He said that according to United Nations calculations, the annual funding gap for developing countries in terms of future new energy and green energy transformation is about 1.5%.asiansoccer.75 trillion US dollars.

"This reminds me of the Marshall Plan made by the United States after World War II, whose basic purpose was to use its own resources to support the economic recovery of European countries. Because at the end of World War II, the economies of many European countries were in jeopardy, and later the United States helped them rebuild their economies, which should be said to be very successful." Huang Yiping said.

In terms of new energy and green transformation,"We have technology and products, and whether we have funds depends on people. To a certain extent, the idea I have proposed can be regarded as a Chinese version of the Marshall Plan in the era of green economy. We help these developing countries make green transformation." he said.
